Fario Abduklkarim and her family at Marketplace for Entrepreneurs in Fargo ND, 2007.

Emigrating to Fargo from Somalia in 1995, Fario’s family has relied upon their sales of handmade textiles and small articles representative of their culture. They are representative of the large number of New Americans in North Dakota looking for a way to support their families through microentrepreneurial ventures. Fario is a college junior and planning for a degree in law.

She will provide computer training classes to New Americans in the Fargo area. This will include updated materials and hand-outs with translations to enhance the students’ ability to learn English.
